Charging

How do I start charging?

Park, plug in, and start with a payment card at the charger, your RFID card or key fob, Spirii Go, or another provider's app through roaming. Follow the instructions on the screen — charging starts, and you stop it on the screen, in the app or in the car.

How fast will I charge?

The chargers deliver up to 240 kW on one plug, both in Struer and at Hans Knudsens Plads. The actual speed depends on the car's maximum charging power, the battery's temperature and charge level, the car's charging curve, and whether another car is using the same charger. 120 kW for 15 minutes gives about 30 kWh — around 150 km for most cars.

Why do you recommend charging from 20 to 80 %?

It's fastest and gentlest on the battery. A nearly full battery charges slowly, so the charger is busy for a long time for little power. Keep an eye on your charge, let others have a turn, and don't charge for more than 30 minutes.

Can two cars charge at once?

Yes, the chargers have two plugs. Power is shared automatically by how much each battery can take. A car that connects while another is charging at high power gets the spare capacity, which grows as more becomes free.

Can my car charge at EV-EL?

The plugs fit DC charging on most electric cars. The Nissan Leaf and other cars with CHAdeMO cannot use the plugs and so cannot charge at EV-EL.

Payment and prices

What does it cost?

The price depends on when you charge. See the current price list on the Prices page and the price right now on the station pages and in Spirii Go. All prices include VAT, and there is no subscription.

Do I get the discount when I pay by card?

No. The Fair 'n' Share discount applies when you start the charge with Spirii Go or your RFID card or key fob, once your voucher code is added. If you pay by card directly at the charger, you get no discount.

Can I pay without an app?

Yes. You can pay with Visa and Mastercard at the charger. You pay in Danish kroner, and the card issuer may add a fee.

What is Spirii Go, and do I need to register?

Spirii Go is the app from Spirii, the Danish company that runs EV-EL's charging platform. With the app you can find the charger, see the price and availability, start and stop, and get the receipt. You register as a user with Spirii — EV-EL has no access to your payment details.

Can I use my own charging provider's app?

Yes, through roaming, if your provider supports the EV-EL charger. The price and terms are shown in the app you use. The Fair 'n' Share discount does not apply to the roaming price.

Where do I get my receipt?

In Spirii Go under your past charges. If you pay by card at the charger, the terminal gives you a receipt, and as a Fair 'n' Share member you get a monthly statement by e-mail.

Fair 'n' Share

Does it cost anything to join?

No. Fair 'n' Share is free and has no commitment. You join with your name, e-mail and mobile number and confirm with a code by SMS.

Why do I start on Smart?

So you get 10 øre off per kWh from the very first month. After that, your usage each month decides whether you are on Fair, Smart or Elite.

How often does my level change?

Once a month, based on the previous month's usage: Fair up to 150 kWh, Smart 150–500 kWh, Elite over 500 kWh. If your usage drops, your level changes only at the next monthly calculation.

What is Eco?

5–10 øre extra off per kWh when more than 80 % of the kWh in your recent charges was outside peak hours. Eco is personal and comes on top of Fair, Smart or Elite — up to 25 øre off in total.

What does Fair 'n' Share mean for my wallet?

If you drive like an average Dane – about 16,500 km a year – your car uses roughly 3,200 kWh. If you do all your charging at EV-EL, that takes a noticeable amount off the bill every single year:

  • On your own at Smart: you save DKK 320 a year without lifting a finger.
  • Together at Elite: if you join up in a group, your saving rises to DKK 480 a year.
  • With the full Eco benefit: if you also charge outside peak hours, you get a full DKK 800 a year in discounts.
How do I log in?

Without a password. Enter your mobile number, you get a code by SMS, and you're on My page with your usage and level.

Charging stations

Where are the chargers?

At Hans Knudsens Plads in Østerbro, Copenhagen (at the end of the Helsingør motorway, in the south-east corner by Æbeløgade), and at Struer Fri Fag- og Højskole, Vesterled 7, right by Route 11. Both are open around the clock.

Is there anything to do while the car charges?

Yes. At Hans Knudsens Plads there is a public toilet, a kiosk and several grocery shops a few minutes' walk away. In Struer, Netto and Lidl are across the road and McDonald's is less than 50 m away.

Can I see if the charger is free?

Yes, in Spirii Go and on the station pages, which show how many chargers are free right now, e.g. "1/2 free".

Help and more

Charging doesn't start, or the screen shows an error. What do I do?

Where does the power come from?
